Hustle is changing
The Hustle community is evolving and growing. At thehustlelounge.com we have new dancers inquiring about private lessons, studios and events in their town as well as dancers visiting the site and inquiring from over 50 countries worldwide.
Recently Hustle Pros Raul Santiago & Sergia Anderson performed their Salsa routine at Steven’s Steakhouse in Commerce, CA (a Salsa venue); they were requested to perform their Hustle routine by a large part of the audience who knew of their Hustle routine; the younger generation of Salsa dancers are discovering Hustle.

We’ve certainly had ample opportunity over the last 5 years to test the waters regarding a connection between Salsa and Hustle. We already all agree there is little or no observed connection between West Coast and Salsa, since West Coast is just too slow.
The best mixing point for Hustle/Salsa is surely Billy’s Hustle & Salsa event in Miami, being as it is a competition run by the IHDA (Hustle) president and a city known for it’s Latin’s and Salsa dancers already (Miami).
5 years into the plan, it is clear that salsa people have very little desire to miss a hot salsa tune for a lethargic hustle song in adjoining ballrooms. West coasters are marginally interested in Hustle however - and we have already pushed that connection to it’s logical limit at our combined events nationally. Many young people who come into Hustle quickly discover West Coast at our big events, and leave us to become permanent Westies. I expect that to continue until we speed up Hustle markedly.
Faster versions of Hustle counted 12&3 have a natural connection with Salsa “On One” just as slower West Coast has with NY styled hustle. In fact, even the two age groups match (Old/Old and Young/Young).
If you want a Hustle & Salsa connection - you need to be doing the faster hustle (sling) that we all did prior to hustle USA. That connection WILL work, because - in that case, there IS a connection that doesn’t exist with either West Coast or NY styled Hustle.
