Always a gentleman with energy and a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by the Hustle community and all that new him. Watch out Heaven….Artie is coming and it’s Hustle Time!! May he rest in peace.
Arte was one of my first partners and will always have a special place in my heart.
He lived and breathed dance and was never afraid to think outside the box. His creative and earthy style is a great example of his love to help our dance, The Hustle, evolve.
Most importantly, he was a kind person and a true gentleman. We must remember this brilliant dancer by staying positive and by working together to keep this dance that he loved alive!
May Arte rest in peace. Thanks Arte for blessing the dance community with your talent, and grace.
One of my fondest memory of Arte was at one of Bill Cameron’s New Year Extravaganza a few years back. Arte would dance in the Hustle room for about 30 minutes straight, and everyone in the Hustle room watched and enjoyed his dancing.
Artie would then go over to the West Coast Swing room and dance for another 30 minutes straight, and again everyone in the West Coast Swing room would enjoy his dancing. It gets even better…. Artie would then go over to the Lindy Hop room, and jam with all the Lindy dancers for another 30 minutes straight.
It made no difference what type of dance. Arte was extremely talented sociable, imaginative, and creative whether he was dancing Hustle, West Coast Swing, or Lindy. Most importantly, he blended iwith with all dancers, and had fun with all dance communities.
Arte was my favorite dancer, and one of my favorite people. He was such an excellent teacher; he would never allow you to feel like you did something wrong, even if you missed what he was teaching. He would call it a “creative” or “interesting” option.
Arte absolutely loved to dance, and made those around him love it as well. He taught me that dance was not as technical as some lead you to believe, but that there was freedom and fun in it. I will always be grateful for that lesson.
Last weekend he told me that there was no wrong move in Hustle and that as long as you keep the timing and don’t hinder what your partner is doing, anyting goes.
I am so sad to have lost such an excellent teacher and friend.
I just saw him at Mountain Magic this past weekend. He was so full of life! Seemed to be healthy and in good spirits. Danced a WCSwing with him - the best dance of the weekend.
Any dance with him was a treat.
Arte always got inside the music - as he said in class: “your first partner is the music”. He danced into the early morning hours Sunday and later that day gave a lecture on the history of hustle.
Who could guess he’d now be dancing with the angels? A gentleman loved by all.
Farewell Arte, your vibes will continue in all who knew you…
The last thing I expected to learn from Facebook was about Arte’s passing. We worked together years ago and ran into each other occasionally over the years and I was always glad to see him.
What a pleasure it was working with such a sweet and kind man!
We worked together at Fred Astaire Studio in NYC back in 1981. It was at 1780 Broadway, The old Stepping Out; and boy if those walls could talk… Let’s just say there was never a dull moment.
The management and staff used to call Arte ‘Dennis the Menace’ and I soon after became ‘Dennis the Menace Junior’. We would take part in insane things like skipping work to go to Great Adventure with 10 other staff members.
Once we went off to Fire Island for an insane, far out trip, literally. Maria and my old girlfriend Erica would be our dates (but not really). We would act like tough guys with the girls and make a scene on the train for laughs. Then dance like superstars for hours & hours until dawn became morning. We would go back to work burnt to a crisp from sleeping on the beach & waiting for the LIRR in the hot August sun. No one really believed we were ever sick and we never got in trouble because we were just too cute together.
I remember Artie as always being the complete package, very dynamic and light-years ahead of anyone else. You had to see him compete live with Lisa the year prior; they became instant US champions. Then he and Maria would memorize me with line after line of pure dance creativity at places like the Ice Palace or Darian’s in Bay Ridge. I wanted to be just like Artie from age 17 to 21. We had a lot of fun back in those days.
I bet he’s up there right now with Eddie playing catch-up and turning it out to ‘2 Pigs & A Hog’. I’ll always be like your little brother and love you just as much.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Arte’s passing this morning. He was a special person, and I will always cherish the playful dances we had together.

He really brought so much joy and knew exactly how to pull fun out of dancing. Just as his name..he was classic Art. His Dance surely expressed life at it’s fullest.
We should all be thankful for the times we had with him.
Arte’s passing is a great loss for all of us in the dance world, the word got to the west coast as fast as lightening, and today my heart is covered in tears.
Thank you Arte for all you gave us, the lessons I took from you will always be cherished and I feel priviledged to have known such a beautiful person.
Arte was a beautiful person inside and out. His extraordinary dance talent, humor, wisdom, creativity, and enthusiasm was a gift to those who was lucky to have known him, and to dance with him, and to have taken lessons from him.
A master of his craft, a wonderful instructor able to share his wealth of knowledge and provide entertainment all rolled into one!!!
I remember Arte asking me what I wanted, what was my goal for hustle…I told him, “I want to be a female Arte.” He beamed with pride (then rolled his eyes).
Life is short, dance with meaning and conviction, 100% or go home.
I only met him 2 weeks ago but found him to be a very sweet and energetic person and I am grateful to have met him even for a moment… he will be missed.. may god keep him in his dancing shoes as he enters the gates of heaven dancing….
I am shocked and truely saddened by this news. Our community has suffered a huge loss in dear Mr. Phillips’ passing. Having met Arte only a few times, in the years I have been dancing Hustle, I feel greatly honored he visited Houston.
He was always a pleasure, a man worthy admiration and respect.
May his spirt will live on in every “&1,2,3″ his students dance from here to forever.
Dancing god must be zealous of hustle, 1st Eddie then now Arte at a such a young age….
I still can’t believe that we will not see him at the dance floor anymore. It doesn’t seem that long ago when I 1st saw this beautiful individual dancing with Maria Torres in 77 in NYC…
Arte was always a gentleman and so full of life. When he danced, he energized the room. I will miss his dancing, his laughter, his fun, his unique love of life, and his caring for others. He impacted so many dancers and his legacy will remain. God Bless You, Arte.
I was trying to explain to a friend of mine what it was that set Arte in a different category than the other outstanding dancers and stand out from the rest. Arte was unique, playful, and you just wondered what fun move he was going to pull out of his hat next. (excuse the pun)
This is the analogy I came up with.
“You have the great pro basketball players, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Byrd, etc.. and then you have the Globetrotters.
You have the pro dancers that are amazing dancers, and then you have Arte”.
Arte simply had a Charisma, without a doubt would permeate any room/space he was dancing in.
Well, it’s been a long sad day settling with the reality we won’t experience that Charisma from him again. A great loss indeed.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
Enjoy Arte up there in Heaven; you’ve all been blessed with an amazing dancer.
Arte was such an inspiration. He made you feel like a million bucks on the dance floor, even if you were a beginner. He was an artist and a gentleman and he will be sorely missed.
Is there going to be a memorial service or a dance in his honor?
Arte was such an inspiration. It didn’t matter what level you were at, he made you feel like a million bucks on the dance floor. He was a true artist. He will be sorely missed.
I did not know Arte well, although I had the privilege of dancing w/ him after a lesson a couple years ago in Escondido. I will always remember it as one of the fun-est dances EVER. He had a gift, he was a gift and will be missed. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.
The lights have been dimmed … as the curtain closes on this earthly segment of your life’s production. I know you are already moving to the next “stage” in heaven to continue with your brilliant and amazing contributions.
My time spent with you will always be cherished as every time we were together, we had so much fun … so many laughs … and of course our memorable and immeasurable “Sunday Strange Dance Improvisations” at Mountain Magic/Lake Tahoe over the years. There were many that stayed over specifically just to see you and I dance … or perhaps be unbelievably creative is a better title. The intuitive connection present for us was incredible.
My heart goes out to your family and all who had the good fortune to know you. You are a “Class Act” with an incredible ability to brighten a room. Your passion and caring for people as well as the dance is a very rare gift and this world will be a less bright place without you.
Thank you for all the class you brought to the dance and most of all for your friendship – I will cherish that the most! I will miss you here on Earth. I am in shock and I know that I already miss my friend.
Rest in Peace … and Dance On into Heaven.
Farewell my Friend,

What excitement and enthusiasm Arte brought to the Hacienda Hotel hustle community! I’m very saddened that we will no longer be able to look forward to his special visits here in LA.
It was shocking and sad for me when I heard late Wednesday evening about the tragic news. Even for a person who has been associated with the Hustle Community of Philadelphia for a little over a year, I feel the great loss.
Arte Phillips was extraordinarily talented, with lots of depth: from his staged choreography at Disco America, to his entertaining antics while dancing freely at Michael’s Café. It is truly a shame, that such a great person should leave us half way through the contributions of their life time.
But Arte’s spirit, and the great difference he has made in The World of Hustle, will continue to be passed along to others, by each of us.
As another relative newbie to the Hustle scene, I am saddened to learn of Arte’s passing. I have met many wonderful people in my year and half, and Arte truly stood out. Fun, funny, amusing and always inspiring and a joy to watch, I will miss him.
A few weeks ago I was priveleged to have a conversation with Arte and there was a greater depth to him than just his public personna, antics aside. And his dedication as a teacher was incredible…not only did he teach steps, he taught attitude and spread the joy of dance every time.
Arte, wherever you are now, and for a sort a time as it was, I am glad to have known you.
I guess writing it down somehow makes this real. It doesn’t seem possible that a man filled with so much life is gone. It is so sad that we have lost such an amazing and wonderful person. His charm and smile lit up a room and everyone gravitated to him. Now the room seems empty without him. Faith lets me believe that he is in a better place with those who have passed before him. But we all will miss him… very very much.
I met Arte not too long ago as I come to hustle late. I wanted to quit seeing all these old timers who were so good and I felt like what the hell am I doing here as it was quite intimidating!
However, when I met Arte he inspired me by his exuberance, his beautiful energy and his joie de vivre! He was truly unique!
Arte was such an inspiration. It didn’t matter what level you were at, he made you feel like a million bucks on the dance floor. He was a true artist, and he will be sorely missed.
I was blessed to have met you back in the 80’s (we had so much fun at my wedding to Bill). You’re spirit filled w/the love of dance that you so beautifully expressed as only you could.
We were in awe of your dance back then just as we were when we recently saw you dance.
It was wonderful to know you.
p.s. Give Eddie a big kiss and hug from us…Adela & Bill
Arte I will always remember you for your passion and creativity on the dance floor. Truly you will be missed by all and of the lives you touched on and off the dance floor.
The Hustle Community has truly lost a legend.
We must always remind ourselves how much Arte has given to this community and to enjoy the dance just as he did.
He will always be my favorite instructor and dearly missed.
I had just returned from a business trip when I got the sad message on my cellular phone late Wednesday night (11/12/08). I did not want to believe it until I had confirmed with a few sources the next day.
Arte, thank you for teaching me how to dance, and for choreographing routines for my partner and I.
What I want to know is: who is going to dance non-stop like the energizer bunny until 4 in the morning to the delight of us all? Who is going to “push the envelope” with how we think and do this dance we all love? Who is going to provide such outrageous insanity as two summo wrestlers Hustle dancing to the song Kung Foo Fighting or the exquisitely beautiful illusion of art coming to life to dance for us?
I cannot find one aspect of the Hustle world he did not touch/influence/enhance-we have a lot to do to continue in his dance steps…
Good night sweet prince, may flights of angels guide thee to thy rest.
I am new to the Hustle world and just met Arte Phillips at the NY Hustle Congress.
I watched him dance for two days, and I could not take my eyes off him. I took a lesson from him and am blessed that he shared his philosophy of the dance with me.
Although Arte was advertised as the King of Hustle I found that somehow not fitting. He was really not “Kingly”, you see. Instead, I consider him to have been the Spirit of Hustle, because that is what he was. He could teach and do both lead and follow and love it.
After the formalities of the event were over he would be dancing till far after I could stay up and just having fun. I’ll never forget his description, in class of how a woman (follower) extends her arm out on the “and 1”- “pretend you are showing your brooch to your best friend”- His love of dance and the dance community add an extra dimension to my life and his dimension will be sorely missed.
I saw him at countless dance conventions and nights at many of the NY and Philly area hustle dances and I always made a point to say hello and shake his hand.
I will never forget him.
It was just this past Sunday night at midnight when I said goodbye to him and Michelle Kincaid at the lounge at the Horizon in S. Lake Tahoe. Little did I know it would be the last time I would see him.
We will miss you Arte - you gave it the best you could.
I just saw Arte last Sunday night at Mountain Magic. I was saying my goodnights to him and Michelle and he gave me a kiss on the cheek goodbye. I had my best dance ever with him that afternoon.
Arte was such a gracious man.
When I was a beginner, I would watch Arte dance the night away at Mountain Magic and he would ask me to dance. He always made me feel good about the dance. A couple of years ago, at the Sunday night dance during the convention, Arte made it a point to ensure that he danced with all the women present; he didn’t leave anyone out.
I will never forget his kindness and his joy of dance. He will be sorely missed.
What sad and shocking news. It is hard to believe after just seeing him at Mountain Magic this past week-end so full of life as always. His workshops were always filled with great dancing and lots of humor. His dancing was awsome - he radiated creativity. The group from Alaska were among those who always stayed Sunday night at MM to hang out in the Aspen Lounge to see Michelle an Arte get creative on the dance floor. It had become a tradition.
To his friends and family - I am so sorry for your loss. Arte will be missed by so many people.
The name of Arte is known here in Europe, too. It is a dream of mine to come to USA and to learn from you all. Unfortunately I have had not the chance to meet Arte Phillips. A sad story.
Nevertheless - my respect to these famous dancer!
God bless you!
You sparked my passion for hustle. You were the one who taught me that I could break the rules when I danced — after I learned them all, of course. You showed me what improv is. You showed me that hustle is still relevant for my generation, with your Usher and your Justin Timberlake and your tremendous style.
You had the most brilliant way of communicating things to me. I used to be a little overly responsive? Quick to anticipate? You laughed at me and asked if I was an easy date. You said I needed to make my partner work for it a little more. I always laugh at that.
You always waited till later in the evening to dance, because as soon as you started dancing, everyone cleared the floor to watch you. It was impossible not to. But you were so gracious and humble.
You were such a good friend, too. Invariably, we would take your last lesson, when you were really tired (still you’d make us work the full 120 minutes), so that we could go to dinner with you. I loved your stories. I loved that you asked about my life. I loved that you teased me and David. And that you helped us with lindy choreography when we asked for help.
You should know that you have shaped every aspect of my dancing, in technique and style, from lindy to blues to hustle. I think of you all the time when I dance.
How wonderful it was to dance with you;
How much fun it was to flirt with you;
How interesting your Hustle History presentation was;
How much joy was on your face as you played on the dance floor with Michelle on Sunday night mere days before your passing.
You will be missed. You were a gift.
I hope his family and close friends find comfort in reading about all the lives he touched in a myriad of ways. My condolences.
The highlight of any evening where Arte was present was to watch him dance and dance and dance! I had the opportunity to dance with him on occasion and he always made the dance enjoyable with that great big smile on his face! He will be truly missed.
What a tremendous loss. What a great man, great dancer, great teacher and a friend to all. I think all who knew Arte are just stunned. How could this happen? Hustle losing Arte is like a ship losing its Captain. We all loved Arte, I personally thought he was the best teacher in the business. Even in remote parts of the country like Grand Rapids MI the loss of Arte is felt.
My deepest condolences to his family.
“Arte was loved by all who knew him, he was a great man”
Arte understood the dance community. He danced with all. I remember having a fabulous dance with him when he was in Phoenix. It was a dance that I talked about for weeks.
At magic mountain this past weekend, my friend had a dance with him, and after the dance, she ran up to me to tell me what a great dance it was, one of the best of the weekend.
His smile, his energy, and his hat will be deeply missed in the community.
Undoubtedly one of the most talented dancers of our generation. He has touched so many lives with his extraordinary creative talent & spirit.
We are blessed as a dance community to have witnessed a Legend we can talk about & honor to future generations to come.
His life’s achievements are a testament to his dedication to the Dance Arts and countless dancers he unselfishly shared his knowledge and experience with.
Much Love, Thanks & Appreciation for sharing yourself with us.
We will truly miss you Arte! We always had fun in your class. You were an inspiration to our hustle dance and we were fortunate to have spent time in your class this past weekend at Mountain Magic.
Who would have thought that your lesson on the history of hustle would be the last time we would be with you.
May you rest in peace Arte.
I am imagining that you are preparing the hustle lounge in heaven.
Arte, there was no one more entertaining then you. Your classes were incredible. This past weekend at Mountain Magic you were a star as always. After teaching the hustle move, you would asked your students to demo it and say ” it is your turn to embarass yourself”. Just too funny. The passion that you brought to your talk on the history of hustle was so inspirational, that afterwards I turned to my partner in life and said, I want to get better at this dance.
You are a great dancer but you had a trememdous talent of getting your students so motivated to improve.
There are no words to find at this time that haven’t already been said by all who write on this site. We lost Artie way too early in life, as we have lost other incredible talents before him. I was in Puerto Rico a couple of years ago and Artie and I had an amazing talk in the pool about the good old days. I will never forget our conversation, which will remain in my mind and heart for the rest of my life. Artie was one of the kindest, gentle souls that I have ever met. I am honored to have known him. Rest in peace Artie. You are a true legend.
Hustle dancers in Pittsburgh are shocked, stunned and saddened by the loss of Artie. Whenever we traveled to hustle events we always took his workshops - not only to learn from him but to enjoy that hour or two we spent with him.
His group hi-five at the end of his lesson was a reflection of the humor and joy he always shared. We will remember him here by dancing those ‘Artie moves’ for years to come.
As a novice dancer I was amazed with the grace and enthusiasm Arte gave to every dance on the social floor. I remember it took me many attempts before the first time I found the courage to ask him to dance at a Summer hummer and he not only gave me the dance of a lifetime, he gave me the drive to continue to have the drive to try new and intimidating things and have fun with them.
You are already missed. Thanks for bringing so much joy and confidence to my dance.
I was shocked to receive the sad news about Arte. There is no way to express the joy I felt watching Arte dance, and the inspiration that he was to me. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to take many workshops with him and dance many memorable dances. This is a devestating loss. I will miss you, Arte. My condolences to his friends and family.
I still hear Arte’s laughter coming out of our guest room at 4am (and waking us up) as he watched DVD’s of old Betwitched episodes. I can hear the Valley-Girl “WhatEVERRRR!”, the “hey leaders, get some Viagra in thoise arms!”, the “interesting choice!” whenever I totally screwed up.
I can still see the happiness and anticipation on his face, and on my 13-year old daughter’s as he pulled her on to the dance floor last Saturday.
I can still smell the orange-pink roses he brought to the house and spent 45 minutes arranging until they were PERFECT.
I can still feel the goodbye hug and kiss from Sunday.
The unverse has a lot to asnwer for, taking him away from us so much before it was time . . .
I met Arte for the first time at last years “Hooray for Hollywood” hustle event. I was mesmerized by him. Spent the entire weekend watching him dance and was fortunate to get 2 dances with him. I’m shocked!!! I was really looking forward to seeing and watching him again at the next local event.
What a sad loss… My condolences to all who knew him.
I am so very shocked and saddened by the loss of a an amazing dancer and person. I was introduced to Arte six years ago by my sister Carolyn at a beginners husltle class. Even a novice like me got time with the master who was always engaging and a true gentleman. Instructors and performers like him come around only once in a lifetime and I am blessed to have known him. A terrible loss to the hustle community who need more people like him. My condolences to his friends and family.
I had the great honor to meet you and talk with you. I’ll never forget these precious moments. I had the chance to attend your workshops and I would have loved to learn more from you. I can’t believe you’ll never be with everybody who love you.
You were so full of live. But I’m sure you will go on dancing and inspired us wherever you are.
Rest in peace, Arte.
My condolences to his family.
Shock and extreme sadness. We knew each other for over 30 years as competitors, performers, teachers and most of all friends. Artie will forever be a proud spotlight for the dance community. Especially our Hustle dance community because this is where he got his beginnings.
I still remember when I saw Artie on Broadway in Grand Hotel. I had been out of the dance scene for over 10 years and was thrilled when I recognized him on stage. I sent a congratulatory note to Artie back stage and in his forever gracious manner he invited me, my wife and our friends backstage for a tour. My friends still talk about that experience to this day.
Artie was a special talent and will be sorely missed. A tremendous loss for the dance world at large. My deepest condolences to his family.
I will always admire Arte not only for his amazing dancing and teaching talent, but also for his kindness to all people. He exuded so much love when he danced, when he taught, even when just saying hello.
I will forever be grateful that I had the chance to learn not only dance from him, but also compassion.
He was truly an angel who touched the lives of so many, and now he is at home.
Thank you, Arte for gracing us with your presence, now and always,
Carolyn
We’re grateful to have known such a kind, caring man who always made us feel special. We’ll miss watching you dance but most of all, we will miss you!!
I remember the first time that I saw Arte dancing socially with Archie on Sunday evening (at the tail end of the US Open Swing Dance Championships years ago).
I wasn’t sure who he was at the time, however it was quite apparent that he was a Broadway dance star. I felt lucky to have seen this dance, and I was amazed with how high he could kick, and was impressed with a leap that he did (just like the dancers on Broadway).
I will always remember the wonderful craziness he brought to every dance that he danced, and there were a lot of them.
Arte is more inspiring than just about anybody I have come to know in the dance world. He will surely be missed!
I think Arte will live on in each of us, as we think of him at future dance events!
I was stunned when I got the message. Still find it hard to believe. Artie was a very likeable person which showed when he danced as well, and in dancing that is not the easiest thing to do, but his personality had always shown thru.
He was passionate about dance and a very talented and fun dancer. His energy was endless!
Words can’t express my shock and sadness on hearing of Artie’s death. He had a unique talent for making his dance partners - whether novice or experienced - feel special, fun, talented or beautiful - any or all of the above. And as a showman, he was spectacular. His playfulness and creativity seemed to have no bounds! He will be so sorely missed. Certainly, he must be dancing in the universe somewhere even now!
It’s hard to imagine the dance community without Arte. He was a mesmirizing dancer and a fantastic teacher. He danced with everyone and was always encouraging, funny & passionate. His lessons always left me wanting more.
Where do I begin?!? Artie and I met on the Inferno dance floor back in ‘77. From day one he was known for 2 things, the nickname “Whiteboy Artie” and his unique, magnetic presence while dancing. He immediately became part of the Hustle royalty here in NYC.
One thing that stood out about him was his naturally friendly and funny personality. What I admired about him most was that like his mentor, Eddie Vega, he wasn’t satisfied with just being a great Hustle dancer, he became a COMPLETE dancer!!. Imagine my face when I went to go see the show “Victor Victoria” on Broadway and there was Artie on stage!! I was very proud and happy to see how far he had gone with his talent.
But as large as he became, he always stayed his cool, humble and helpful self. I had the honor of working with him at every major Hustle event since the first Hustle USA in ‘95. What I will miss the most is how much mischievous fun we had at them.
I’m still not good with talking about him in past tense. Just can’t come to the acceptance that I’ll never see him again. The energy and fun level at any gig I’ve ever played that Artie showed went up 1000%. He was truly Hustle’s greatest ambassador.
Going to any future Hustle party will never feel the same.
Thank you for being the gentleman leader. The Hustle Community now has the obligation to uphold the high benchmark you set for inclusiveness, joy of dance and good sportsmanship.
I truly hope that other so-called leaders in the Hustle Community will honor your legacy by bringing people into the family as you did, rather than keeping people down/out.
The family of loved ones you created around you was not a delusion or a contrived group of people; this family right now is missing you so badly and truly mourning your loss, because you have brought people together, you have created a family and you are the spiritual leader of the Hustle family.
No one else deserves this title but you.
Arte Phillips, Leader of the Hustle Community, Rest in Peace.
The little we spoke…you were always a gentleman, very upbeat, encouraging, supportive, and full-of-life. I love watching you on the dance floor and sharing a dance with you. Along with others, I will miss seeing you and shocked to hear you are dancing in heaven. Dancing with funk will not be the same at Michaels. God Bless you, your family, and your friends. You will be deeply missed.
Arte Phillips was one of my very first instructors when I started learning the hustle several years ago. I will never forget how he taught me to enjoy the dance, to listen to the music, to not hold back and that the possibilities are endless. I am still amazed by how much personality he expressed in his dancing and will always strive to do the same. He is part of the reason I got so addicted to dancing in the first place, and I don’t know where I’d be today if it weren’t for that. Even as I moved from hustle to west coast swing and didn’t see arte for a long time, his lessons and amazing personality stuck with me. I was so excited to see him at mountain magic this past weekend, and the fact that he remembered who I was meant the world to me. Everytime I looked over at him dancing or judging with his hat and tiger striped sunglasses it brought a smile to my face. I will cherish the dances I danced with him forever and ever. I feel soo lucky and honored to have known arte, I only wish I could have known him longer. But even now he is an inspiration to all to go out and learn all different dances and to remain humble and friendly to everyone regardless of how great you become.
Thank you so much arte for everything you’ve given to me and to this world, it is a better place because of you. You are one of a kind and will be missed beyond words.
Not Enough of Arte
Arte– to say you were a friend is not enough
Arte– to say that you helped the dance world is not enough
Arte– to say that you were funny as hell is not enough
Arte– to say that you had coolness about you is not enough
Arte– to say you told it like it is. People did not like that alot is not enough
Arte– to say you were bold is an understatement and is really not enough
Arte– to say you had the heart of gold and a lion is not enough
Arte– you shared everything you had and then some is not enough
Arte– to say you were a fashionista is not enough
Arte– to say that you are a gentlemen is not enough
Arte– the laughs I had with you, Beth, Louie, Maria, Deborah, Raul were priceless and needless to they were not enough
Arte– the dances I watched you, you created and even danced with you were not enough. Especially, at Hustle USA after the show and we danced and I clapped you in that shadow. HA Bitch!!!! I know you stole it!!! Ha. Still not enough
Arte– I remember hugging you hello and now I must say goodbye.
You will be missed by me, Debbie and I remember when you first saw my son Antonio and you looked at us and said ” not his first life”. This was not yours either my brother.
You are a beacon and we will try to keep the light on for you.
Oh God, I had never met anyone like ARTE. I am so sad, and in shock. ARTE, came to my country, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and felt part of us. He made the coreography for SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, and because of him, so many young talents today can dance HUSTLE. I cannot believe that a few days ago we were emailing each other. Arte was my friend, a beautiful friend, a tremendous friend and teacher. I will never forget you Arte.
Mi Arturo querido…Monta Loco!!! That was the way we talked here in Dominican Republic. He loved to come here, go to the beach and have a Presidente beer.
I will miss you so much, all these kids will miss you. I WILL DANCE AGAIN WITH YOU, SOME DAY, IN HEAVE.
I remember the first time I met ARtie, way back in 82 at the Harvest Moon Ball. What an incredible dancer. Fast forward 26 years and still the smile could light up any room. The stance was full of such aura. Always with a signature hat. That is what I will remember most about ARtie. The way he made everyone feel special. He made everyone want to dance…….
This is turly a great lose for the dance community as a hold. Arte will always be remembered for his ability to make everone want to dance.H e can walk in a room of any social and get the party started.. But most of all he show me how human we all are and that no two people see dancing in the same way. That is, we will see ARTE in every movement of any dance where ever or when ever the music plays…. HE WILL BE MISSED. I LOVE HIM
Watching Arte dance made my heart smile. I have never seen a dancer feel and hear the music, every single beat the way he did. What an immeasurable tremendous loss to the dance community and the world. Being such an extraordinary talent while remaining such a humble and down to earth person and never being too good to turn down even a beginner dancer is what really made him a star. Even though I didn’t know him very well the few times I saw him you could just feel the room get warmer and brighter when he walked in. A truly unique and special human being that we lost too soon. Arte you will be missed by all. Only the good die young. Cherish today because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Rest in peace Arte.
Arte was one of the most inspiring teachers I’ve ever met, and the most amazing dancer I’ve ever seen. Arte was a force of nature. And his presence in a room… I remember wondering if Arte would be at Mountain Magic last year - things seemed a bit too quiet. Then he walked through the door after a VERY late flight, and the entire room came to life. Just talking to him for a moment was enough to make my day.
Arte, my life is better because you were in it. I think there are a lot of people who can say that about you, and that is an awesome legacy. You are one of a kind, and I’m glad I got to spend time with you and learn from you.
I think Heaven became a lot more fun this week - and a heck of a lot more interesting.
Watching Arte dance at so many events that I attended over the years was truly a joy. His playfulness and artistry on the dance floor will never be matched. He always put a smile on my face, knowing that he was enjoying something that gave me as much joy in my life. I know that he will be dancing in eternity.
I am so grateful that last Wednesday I danced, talked and laughed with you. You have been such an inspiration to me my fellow Aquarian. Our birthdays were 4 days apart, your memory will forever be in my heart.
Arte put a smile on so many faces. It was so exciting to watch him dance and enjoy his passion. He was a gentleman and danced with everyone, no matter what level dancer you were. He was encouraging and passionate and I will miss him.
My heart is heavy and filled with sorrow. The tears can’t stop flowing. I MISS MY ARTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to hug you tight and not let go. I love you Arte. I’ll see you in my dreams
What a joy you were. Delightful, funny, friendly and wondrous to behold in your dancing. Dancing with you was incredible. Love you and already miss you.
A classic gentleman with extraordinary talent that filled the big stages as well as personlized to include everyone - from beginner to advanced - in local workshops. Gone way too soon.
To his family and friends…find the strength in the memories of joy and laughter.
If ever there was someone who seemed perpetually energenic, full of life, and who always had an uplifting word when he sensed you needed it, it was Arte. He will be deeply missed, but our loss is Heaven’s gain, as I am sure he is already teaching the angels to dance.
A Tribute to Arte: http://www.fredf.fotki.com/artetribute/
artie was always entertaining and fun to watch. a man with style and flare, bringing his personality onto the dance floor, and giving a world class performance everytime. so happy i got to see him having fun, strutting his stuff, last wednesday night with all his gang! and that is how i will think of him always….smiling, laughing and dancing!
Life goes on, but the truth is the Hustle died this Wednesday 11-12-2008. He was and is the heart and soul of this dance. God bless him and God bless us that have to dance without him from now on.
Artie had a true heart of gold. Watching him dance was uplifting on every level. Dancing with him was in a word joyous. He was an exceptionally gifted artist who lived for the joy of sheer movement. He is an inspiration to us all. Gone from us now but will never be forgotten.
I never talked to Arte, but watched him dance at Mtn Magic the last couple of years. What a joy to watch him dance, he always looked so happy when dancing, and put on some great dances for people to watch. It was such a shock to hear about his passing, since we all had just seen him only a couple of days prior. My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.
Boundless energy? That’s an understatement! Arte was a one-man circus, party, funhouse and carnival ride all rolled into one, all at once, all the time; not to mention that he was also Fred Astaire, one of the Stooges and Brad Pitt all rolled into one, as well. If you had hooked Arte up to a wind turbine, he could have generated enough energy to power a small New England town. He also had that elusive thing known as “star quality,” and that even more elusive thing known as “sex appeal,” and lots of both. If either could have been bottled and sold, it would have made a lot of money. I can’t recall Arte ever even admitting that he was tired. In fact, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen Arte leave the ballroom to go to bed before me at a dance weekend, and I am 15 years younger than him!
Arte is/was one of the few men who can/could really keep me on my toes and make me work on the social dance floor. I am really going to miss dancing with him! He is/was the most in-the-moment dancer I have ever had the honor and pleasure of dancing with. Arte is also the only dancer I have ever run across where every dance was always completely intense, no matter how late the hour (or early, depending on your point of view) or who he was dancing with.
His untimely death is not just shocking, it’s a paradox. For someone so full of life to die at such a young age and so suddenly… well, I’m not sure there’s even a word for it.
I am truly saddened by the loss of Arte. I only met him a couple of times and I was so honored to have danced with him. When I met hime I was so taken by the beautiful twinkle in his eyes and his great, positive energy. I only wish I had gotten to know him a little better.
Rest in peace.
I first met Arte at a hustle party at Nell’s on 14St nearly six years ago. He looked at me and said , ” you’re kinda big to be dancing”. I said, I want to learn how to dance well. Mihoko Ninomiya and I were taking lessons with Angel Figueroa at Steppping Out Studios and Angel said to us, ” I think you’re both ready for Arte”. I was sooo excited.
Arte immediately took us under his wing. Of course, watching him dance was amazing, but he always said, ” Robert, dancing is so NOT about the steps”. He said, “feel the music and do what it tells you to do”. One of his favorite tunes was “Love is the Message” -edit version. That’s when you would see him and Beth Darchi separate themselves from the rest of the world. Stunning to say the least.
Outside of dance, Arte inspired and mentored me into staying and completing my education, finances and enhancing my spirituality. I never saw him get angry or hold resentments against anyone. Arte was always positive, uplifting and helping others.
He shaped me into the dancer I am today. He always said” Be Clear when you lead”. Or, “if you demand more from your partner, demand more from yourself”.
Rest in heavenly peace Arte - I will dance every dance from here on out, for you and with you, and together we will keep Hustle alive.
With Love, Honor, Respect and Admiration
Your friend always,
Robert D. Lawrence
Words can not express the shock and sadness I am feeling but Arte will always be alive in my heart and the hearts of all the people whose lives he touched. We had so many great times together, so many fun weekends, endless laughs. He was always down to earth..never arrogant, always friendly and kind. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to dance with him as well as have him as a friend. I will miss him and I will never forget him..He was a one of a kind class act. RIP Arte..All my love and gratitude for what you added to my life.
Arte,
I will miss so many things about you, your love for dance, your humor, your crazy dances with Smitty, your wonderful choreography, but most of all your compassion and love overall. You made me a better person through dance and special talks, and I will miss you for that. The dance floor and the world will always have you in their hearts. All my love to you, I will never forget what a true inspiration you truly are. You will always be remembered.
Alysa
In this week’s edition of “Wayne’s Dance Commentary” I mentioned that “There are a number of individuals, including … past and present dance teachers and fellow dancers, who continue to inspire me - not only to dance but to improve my dance skills.” I didn’t know him personally but Artie was one of them and his creative energies have and hopefully will continue to inspire me on the dance floor …
I still can’t believe he’s gone. He would walk into Dance Sport on Monday nights, while Nelson Roman was droppin’ the tunes, and set the place on fire with his limitless energy, his positivity, and his moves.
Always friendly…NEVER came off with a holier-than-thou persona. He will be missed.
Each time I hear “American Girl” played, I will always recall my one and only dance with Arte at Mt Magic. He practically set my hair on fire and sent my spirit soaring with one of the most invigorating, exhilarating and creative interpretations of WCS. I thought: if this man lives like he dances, he’s got it made. Thank you for the memorable dance, Arte!
What a gracious and wonderful man we have lost! Arte was the rarest of the rare. Even as a top-of-the-heap dancer, he would gladly dance with any of us…beginners alike…..and make us feel wonderful about dancing and ourselves.
And then there was that other side of Arte - the side that always wanted to speak Spanish with me to in order to honor and retain his South American heritage.
There is simply no replacing such a wonderfully talented gentleman of true character.
Words cannot describe the sadness we feel. We can’t imagine a world without you in it. You truly inspired us and helped us to become stronger together as a couple.
We cry every time we remember that you’re not here with us, but you will always be here with us in our hearts and in our dancing.
We will never ever forget you. I wish I could have seen you one last time to tell you how much I love you.
We know you’re with your Lord watching and cheering all of us on but we want you BACK!!!!!!!!
Arte’s passing is a great loss for all of us in the dance world. He will truly be missed. He was a truly unique and special person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. Arte’s inspiration for dance will live on forever.
Having known Arte from waaaayyy back of “The Inferno ” Days of old…one thing I can say…Arte did what he loved. Little did he know that his love was contagious. How many of you wanted to emulate his every move ??? :::exhale::: thank god for Arte, his love for dancing made us all better, made us all dancers…
Rest in peace Amigo ! I am glad to have known you …
You sure will be thought of everytime there’s a couple hustling the night away in some lower manahttan… after hour…
say hi to Butchy and all the great ones that left us too soon. We’ll miss ya !
I was deeply shocked to hear about his passing, I took mnay lessons from him in hustle, I liked him as aperson, friend, great dancer and always would dance with beginners, girls, guys and even old ladies that he didnt even know and just picked at random from a crowd. He passed away Tuesday??? Nov.12? in his sleep where in Philly?? He lived with a friend there I know that..Any info??? unbelievable and hard to think about!!!We all for sure will miss him!!
Whenever you’d see the hat in the distance, you’d know the party was about to begin! Sometimes he would burst into the room and start dancing before he even had his coat off. I would sit out dances just to watch him; and if he caught my eye and knew I was watching him, he would draw me in closer and it was as though he was performing just for me….what an honor. He was my favorite dancer. Arte’s exuberance and passion for dance and for life is his legacy. What a great loss for us all.
And the dancer’s talent will leave a void in that which made him all that he was to many of us, his candid self and unforgetable Karma will leave on for eternity. Having fullfiled his time of sharing with us all that he was in the here and now, Art will live inside many of us for what he brought to the table, inspiration and good times. So let us not forget to embrace each moment as the fragil balance of life will alway’s leave footprints of who we are. Dear friend, thank you for being a true trobador of that which flows through our hearts, just a moment to be emraced, and a dance to celebrate. I will miss you, but somehow some day, I will find you again dancing through eternity one more day.
Arte, It still does not seem real to me. Your passing truly took me to a sad place. Sad because your dance, and presence really inspired me to dance the best tha I can, and everytime I was in the same room with you, I always searched for your attention, so you could see that everything your tought me, I put on the dance floor. The short time I knew you, felt like a life time. I will miss you, and look for you always on the dance floor. Your spirit will always be there. May you rest in peace,
God Bless you ….I love you Arte.

How blessed I am to have seen one of your last “performances” - a dance with Michelle Kinkaid at Mountain Magic on Sunday night. What a treat - as always! Your immense talent, humor, and presence will be greatly missed! Mountain Magic will never be quite the same.
I envy all who will now enjoy your talents on the dance floor forever. Rest on your feet in eternal peace.
Arte Phillips was simply the best of the best, and his passing has shocked the hustle community to its very foundations. I personally saw Arte dancing at Stepping Out the previous Wednesday, wearing a red t-shirt with Coca Cola in Hebrew (from a recent trip to Israel). Little could I have believed he would no longer be with us by the following week. Arte was an incredible and gifted dancer. He stood above the rest because of his extensive dance background, which infused his hustle dancing like no other dancer before him or after. He was at the top of the dance mountain, and all of the best of the A-list hustle dancers acknowledged that Arte was a titan of dance. Most recently, I recall that he was the past presi

Always a gentleman with energy and a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by the Hustle community and all that new him. Watch out Heaven….Artie is coming and it’s Hustle Time!! May he rest in peace.
What a Tremendous loss - Arte was a shining star all the time. Watching him dance was a treat I will always remember.
Rest in Peace way before your time.
It’s only natural that I have received letters from all over the country inquiring about Arte Phillips.
A true testament to the impact he has had on the hustle and on all our personal lives.
He was loved.
He taught us all about dancing, selflessness and the importance of true friendship.
God Bless him.
I last saw Arte in New York for the Hustle Congress. I was in such awe of the way he danced … so graceful, so fluid.
I know he is dancing in Heaven now with the other dancers we’ve lost way too young.
God Bless him. My thoughts are prayers go out to his family and friends.
Arte was such an amazing dancer and so full of life. His presence in a room would raise the energy level and boy could he keep you laughing.
My thoughts are with his family as well as his dance family, he will be missed….
Arte, we love you and we will miss you!
Lisa Nunziella
Goodbye, Arte.
Rest in peace.
Oh my god, I just heard about this, I am in shock…
Arte was a shining light and a wonderful aura in this life…I cannot believe he is gone.
Stunned. A major loss indeed.
My thoughts go out to his family.
Arte was so magnetic that you would be drawn to watch and you couldn’t take your eyes away from him.
I am shocked, sad, and feeling such loss…
Farewell Arte, your vibes will continue in all who knew you…
A beautiful dancer, a beautiful person, a beautiful friend.
The last thing I expected to learn from Facebook was about Arte’s passing. We worked together years ago and ran into each other occasionally over the years and I was always glad to see him.
What a pleasure it was working with such a sweet and kind man!
Cheers, Arte…..
Arte was such an amazing dancer and so full of life. His presence in a room would raise the energy level and boy could he keep you laughing.
He would draw people into his world by just being there.
He will be missed.
Jumpin’ Jack
Aloha Kohoku Arte.
Arte, you shall be forever missed.
Thank you for teaching me hustle.
Arte,
A master of his craft, a wonderful instructor able to share his wealth of knowledge and provide entertainment all rolled into one!!!
I remember Arte asking me what I wanted, what was my goal for hustle…I told him, “I want to be a female Arte.” He beamed with pride (then rolled his eyes).
Life is short, dance with meaning and conviction, 100% or go home.
Oh …so sad. A tremendous talent and a great friend. You will be missed truly…. A caring person who touched lives wherever he danced.
Gee…Artie and I go back to the Harvest Moon Ball days trading moves backstage.
I for one will never forget him …
I am shocked and deeply sadden by this news. Arte was always a gentleman and it was always interesting and a pleasure to dance with him.
He will be remembered for all he brought to the dance world and greatly missed…
I’ll do a dance for you!
I am shocked and saddened. Arte touched the lives of many, many people in the San Francisco Bay Area, dancers and non-dancers alike.
In particular there were a lot of younger dancers whom he enthralled with his stories, amazed with his moves, and inspired with his passion.
We will always have fond memories of him, and we will miss him dearly.
Arte - a gift to the world.
We will always love and miss you, rest in peace….
To see him dance would put a smile on anyone’s face. Arte was truly one of a kind.
You will surely be missed. God Bless You.
My Tribute To my Dear Friend, Arte,
The lights have been dimmed … as the curtain closes on this earthly segment of your life’s production.
Farewell my Friend,
Michelle Kinkaid

What excitement and enthusiasm Arte brought to the Hacienda Hotel hustle community! I’m very saddened that we will no longer be able to look forward to his special visits here in LA.
My prayers for Arte, his family & friends.
Arte Phillips
Respectfully,
As another relative newbie to the Hustle scene, I am saddened to learn of Arte’s passing.
I only met Arte once. But I can certainly speak to the tremendous impact he had on the lives of those for whom I care deeply.
My thoughts go out tonight not only to the man but to all of you who grieve this loss.
Don’t have enough words to define Arte’s amazing spirit!…You were like a father to me. Im gonna think of you not that you’re gone because you don’t.
im gonna think you’re still traveling all around the world inspiring people an doing what you do best!
I love you and you always gonna be in my heart.
Your son, Jochy.
Although he is gone he will never be forgotten!
Arte was the first teacher who made Hustle what it is for me. He taught me to look outside the box and not feel like I had to conform but to CREATE.
It inspired me to promote Hustle in San Diego and to make my Hustle, my own dance.
He taught me as a dancer, he taught me as a teacher, … he will always be part of me.
One of the kindest, brightest, most inspiring men I’ve had the privilege to meet.
The world is a better place for his having been in it.
I only knew Arte for a short time, but he left quite an impression on me and a dancer.
Dancing from the heart…carefree…effortlessly…pure joy - something a dancer strives for all their life.
Thank you, Arte for taking time to dance with me and for always making me feel at home with you.
Arte was such an inspiration. It didn’t matter what level you were at, he made you feel like a million bucks on the dance floor. He was a true artist, and he will be sorely missed.
Arte,
I was blessed to have met you back in the 80’s (we had so much fun at my wedding to Bill).
We surely will miss you.
You will always be our favorite instructor.
Kim
I am new to the Hustle world and just met Arte Phillips at the NY Hustle Congress.
I watched him dance for two days, and I could not take my eyes off him. I took a lesson from him and am blessed that he shared his philosophy of the dance with me.
I will never forget it..or him.
Rest in Peace
simply said arte set the standard not just for hustle but for the dance community in general. total class in every respect.
all male hustle instructors would do well to measure themselves against mr. phillips.
Love always
My heart goes out to his family and friends.
May you Rest in Peace…Our prayers to Arte, and to his family…
Christian & Rosalind from SouthTyrol / Europe
Oh, Arte. I don’t even know where to begin.
I will miss you so much.
At night, you’ ll see Arte dancing in with Stars
At Sunrise, you’ll see his smile shining bright
Rest assure, he’s in a better place
To his Friends and Family, My deepest Condolences
“Arte may you Rest in Peace”
I will always remember:
How wonderful it was to dance with you;
How much fun it was to flirt with you;
How interesting your Hustle History presentation was;
How much joy was on your face as you played on the dance floor with Michelle on Sunday night mere days before your passing.
“Arte was loved by all who knew him, he was a great man”
Arte,
A friend who will last forever in my heart with cherished memories of his smile, wit, personality, creativity, and talent.
Maer Bardai
Arte understood the dance community. He danced with all. I remember having a fabulous dance with him when he was in Phoenix. It was a dance that I talked about for weeks.
At magic mountain this past weekend, my friend had a dance with him, and after the dance, she ran up to me to tell me what a great dance it was, one of the best of the weekend.
His smile, his energy, and his hat will be deeply missed in the community.
My deepest condolences to his friends and family.
It’s been an honor.
Forever in our Hearts & Minds,
Donna DeSimone
Arte
Thank you for all the memories. You have been my competitor, teacher, advisor, friend and family.
You are part of who I am and what Iam. There isn’t a dance song without you being part of it.
I LOVE YOU.
REST IN PEACE
BILLY MARTI
You are already missed.
Our community now has a void that can never be filled.
Thanks for the memories, old friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Rest in peace Artie. You will truly be missed.
I always enjoyed watching Arte dance as much as dancing with him. Always fun, always a smile, always a show.
There will definitely be a void at Michael’s Cafe.
God Bless!
Arte,
I had the great honor to meet you and talk with you.
Françoise JEBAHI, from France
May you forever dance in peace -Artie.
Keep dancing,
Derrick Allen
I will always admire Arte not only for his amazing dancing and teaching talent, but also for his kindness to all people. He exuded so much love when he danced, when he taught, even when just saying hello.
I will forever be grateful that I had the chance to learn not only dance from him, but also compassion.
He was truly an angel who touched the lives of so many, and now he is at home.
Thank you, Arte for gracing us with your presence, now and always,
Carolyn
We’re grateful to have known such a kind, caring man who always made us feel special. We’ll miss watching you dance but most of all, we will miss you!!
God bless!
Thank you Arte!
I was stunned when I got the message. Still find it hard to believe. Artie was a very likeable person which showed when he danced as well, and in dancing that is not the easiest thing to do, but his personality had always shown thru.
He was passionate about dance and a very talented and fun dancer. His energy was endless!
I will miss him.
Sonny
Words can’t express my shock and sadness on hearing of Artie’s death. He had a unique talent for making his dance partners - whether novice or experienced - feel special, fun, talented or beautiful - any or all of the above. And as a showman, he was spectacular. His playfulness and creativity seemed to have no bounds! He will be so sorely missed. Certainly, he must be dancing in the universe somewhere even now!
Pat Korn
It’s hard to imagine the dance community without Arte. He was a mesmirizing dancer and a fantastic teacher. He danced with everyone and was always encouraging, funny & passionate. His lessons always left me wanting more.
I danced with Arte at Alexis dance studio many times in New York & I was one of the dancers in the movie “Eastside Story” I learned alot from him.
Miss you already.
Rest in Peace my Brother.
Bobby
Arte,
Thank you for being the gentleman leader.
We will honor you…
“He danced -we all did something else”
Arte Phillips…
The little we spoke…you were always a gentleman, very upbeat, encouraging, supportive, and full-of-life. I love watching you on the dance floor and sharing a dance with you. Along with others, I will miss seeing you and shocked to hear you are dancing in heaven. Dancing with funk will not be the same at Michaels. God Bless you, your family, and your friends. You will be deeply missed.
Rest in Peace
Because we did not get enough of you.
Go to the light.
Love you and miss you.
Godspeed.
Angel
Love you with all my heart.
Rest in peace.
Always, your dominican friend.
NURYN
I remember the first time I met ARtie, way back in 82 at the Harvest Moon Ball. What an incredible dancer. Fast forward 26 years and still the smile could light up any room. The stance was full of such aura. Always with a signature hat. That is what I will remember most about ARtie. The way he made everyone feel special. He made everyone want to dance…….
Arte,
Thank you for being my inspiration.
I will miss you.
Alice
The world just became a bit quieter and less fun.
Artie,
I am so grateful that last Wednesday I danced, talked and laughed with you.
Keep dancing Artie. Condolences to your family.
May angels crown your cross…………you’ll always be the best!
But Arte, wait, I still don’t know how to…
A classic gentleman with extraordinary talent that filled the big stages as well as personlized to include everyone - from beginner to advanced - in local workshops. Gone way too soon.
To his family and friends…find the strength in the memories of joy and laughter.
LaNay
Truly the end of a beautiful era we will not soon forget…
Your friend always,
Robert D. Lawrence
I remember me and Arte dancing every monday @ Alexis. dance studio.
He will always be # 1 in my eyes. Say hello to eddie for me in heaven
love you
“A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” - Mark Twain
There are few who lived more fully than Arte Phillips. And he helped countless others live more fully.
Thank you, Arte.
Alysa
Arte was a gift and his energy will never leave us!

God rest his soul.
Que vaya con Dios, Arturito.
Arte you rocked our world.
We miss you
Words cannot describe the sadness we feel.

Arte,
How blessed I am to have seen one of your last “performances” - a dance with Michelle Kinkaid at Mountain Magic on Sunday night.
